Leftovers

Advertisements
When you’ve run out of patience
And every last nerve has been fried,
When the cupboards are bare of forgiveness
And every good idea has been tried.

Rational thought is too costly,
And empathy’s curdled and spoiled.
Optimism was used up yesterday;
Every plan to be flexible, foiled.

Compassion can’t feed everyone,
And wisdom is past its expiration date.
There’s no room left to practice fairness,
And no strength remaining to relate.

If work is served the finest of what you make,
How many nights of leftovers can your family take?
